The JumpStart Challenge is a fitness event with a purpose – and a rich history.  It’s Mr Price Foundation’s biggest fundraiser of the year. Every rand raised goes directly to the foundation’s JumpStart programme, to empower youth with life skills and work readiness training. 

Every step you take can help change tomorrow for unemployed youth.    

The event has changed considerably since the inaugural Ride for Mr Price Foundation in 2010, when Mr Price Cycle Club members Kelvin du Sart, Craig Jones, Ryan Ambler-Smith and Graham Daniel put in motion a gruelling 606km charity ride from Johannesburg to Durban.  

This tough fundraising event was open to less than 100 elite cyclists and raised millions for JumpStart over ten years. The last Ride for Mr Price Foundation was held in 2019. 

In 2020, due to Covid-19, the JumpStart Challenge transitioned into a virtual walk/run/ride event. Mr Price Foundation partnered with the Comrades Marathon Association to launch the Mr Price Foundation Challenge, opening up the field to participants from across the globe, and of all ages and abilities. 

The event was not held in 2021 due to the ongoing pandemic; but with the easing of lockdown regulations in 2022, it transitioned into the hybrid JumpStart Challenge. This offered the choice to take part virtually or physically, with the big physical event at Holla Trails in Sugar Rush Park, Ballito. This awesome event raised over R600 000 and attracted almost 700 entries.   

The JumpStart Challenge returns for its third edition from 27 February to 5 March 2023.  

Entrants can once again choose to take part physically at Holla Trails on 4 and 5 March; or virtually, anywhere in the world, from 27 February to 5 March.  

With distances ranging from 3km to 100km, there’s something for everyone: from professional athletes, to teams of colleagues, and families with prams and dogs.  

  • Virtual Ride: 27 February to 5 March: 15km, 50km, 100km   
  • Virtual Walk/jog/run: 27 February to 5 March: 3km, 7km, 15km    
  • Physical MTB Ride: 4 March: 15km, 50km, 95km  
  • Physical Walk/jog/run: 5 March: 3.3km, 8.5km, 14km
